The Young Brides, Old Treasures monograph was published jointly by the Macedonian Arts Council and the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The book documents Macedonian folk art throughout centuries. Written by Macedonian scholars in the field of ethnography the topics range from embroidery and weaving techniques to the social significance of the costumes’ creation.
The book contains over one hundred pages of full-scale photographs of Macedonian bridal costumes donated for permanent curating by the Arts Council to the Museum. The collection is the second largest in the Western Hemisphere with an estimated museum value of $800.000.
From December 2011 to January 6, 2013, these unique folk artifacts were exhibited at MOIFA’s and seen by over one hundred thousand visitors. They will remain at the Museum as permanent testament to the creative genius of the Macedonian embroideresses, keepers of Macedonian cultural identity.
